Survivors of the Fire: Stories and Songs Remembering the Great Hinckley Fire of 1894

The tradition continues! The new Hinckley Fire musical that premiered to standing-room-only crowds in 2024 returns to the Hinckley Fire Museum to commemorate the 132nd anniversary of the fire. Featuring music of the era, harrowing firsthand accounts of the survivors, and poignant tributes to those who perished. This year there will be new stories and songs to enjoy, along with some beloved favorites.

Written by playwright and Hinckley native Jeremiah Gamble, directed by Jeff Miller and featuring a talented cast of Twin Cities musicians and actors.

Labor Day Weekend Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6 at 10:30 a.m., Noon, and 2:30 p.m.

Free admission to the museum and the performance.
Runtime: Approximately 50 minutes

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

This winter, the Hinckley Fire Museum welcomed a very special visitor! Baby Jack Norton, the great-grandson of Jack Peel.

Jack Peel was a native of Hinckley, where he and his wife, Luella, raised their family and created beautiful authentic Ojibwe items that are now displayed at the museum. Visitors can also see a life-sized wigwam built by Jack himself.

Pictured here is baby Jack in a traditional Ojibwe cradleboard handcrafted and hand-beaded by Jack and Luella, which is also on display at the museum.
